Car accidents can cause more than back and head injuries

Car accidents can create several health risks for people. People will likely experience some kind of back and head injury from a crash: concussion, dizziness, skull fracture, lumbar spine sprains and nerve damage.

While spine and head trauma can occur in a car accident, there may be other injuries that people don’t immediately talk about or notice. Here’s what you should watch out for after a wreck:

Hand and wrist fractures

Your hands may take the full force of an airbag in a car accident. Despite daily use, hands are fragile. If sudden pressure is put on your hands and wrists, you could experience broken bones. Broken hands can severely impact your daily life.

Foot, ankle and knee fractures

Cars don’t often have airbags or padding to protect someone’s legs during a car crash. Your legs may fly forward or up into your car’s hard plastic. Hard plastic could leave your foot, knees and ankles vulnerable to injuries.

Torn ligaments and muscles

You may strain your ligaments and muscles in a car crash. Sudden twists or pressure could be enough to tear your ligaments and muscles. Torn ligaments and muscles could be painful, swell or spasm – which may prevent you from working or moving around your home.

If you were recently in a car accident, you could be facing health concerns that aren’t related to your head and spine. You may need to reach out for legal help to recover from your losses and medical bills.
