How scarring can have long-term consequences

If you’ve been in a road traffic collision or any other type of accident that has resulted in open wounds, then you may suffer from scarring. There are various degrees of scarring, with some healing to the point that they are virtually unnoticeable. Unfortunately, some scars are of a more permanent nature.

It’s important to note that scars not only have physical consequences, but they can cause emotional trauma for victims. Outlined below are some of the lasting impacts of scarring.

Chronic pain

Depending on the location and severity of the scarring, it can cause pain that lasts for an extended period, and even a lifetime. Many individuals notice higher pain levels when the weather changes. If the scarring is around an area that used to have stretchier skin, the rigidness of scar tissue can cause pain and discomfort.

Emotional trauma

Some scars are easier to conceal than others. Scarring to the face tends to be more noticeable and it is not easy to conceal these types of wounds. A person may become extremely self-conscious about their appearance and reluctant to socialize or go to work as they used to. Depression is not uncommon among those who suffer from permanent scarring, and this condition can impact a person’s ability to sleep, eat, and function day-to-day.

If you have been injured because of someone else’s negligence in a car wreck or otherwise, then you may be entitled to pursue compensation for your suffering and damages. Seeking some legal guidance can help you get to a point where you can move forward with your life again.
